Nobody hurt in Algonquin fire

A Friday morning garage fire on Algonquin’s west side was out 15 minutes after fire personnel arrived, according to a news release.

Moreover, while nobody was injured in the fire that authorities have since determined was accidental, a family of two was left homeless.

The fire was limited to the a garage attached to a townhouse in the 1300 block of Grandview Court and crews from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District arrived at 11:20 a.m. Extensive smoke damage throughout the home left it uninhabitable, Battalion Chief Mike Kern said. Although the fire was under control 15 minutes later, personnel remained on the scene until 2:19 p.m. to investigate the cause and secure the house — firefighters from Huntley and Crystal Lake assisted.

A damage estimate is not available and the district is investigating how the fire started.
