Lombard man gets 12 years for child sex assault
A DuPage County judge sentenced a Lombard man to 12 years in prison Friday for sexually assaulting a young girl during a seven-year span.
Hasan Qazi, 23, of the 400 block of East Central Avenue, pleaded guilty last month to predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. He faced up to 30 years.
Prosecutor Demetri Demopoulos said Qazi on several occasions sexually assaulted a young girl he knew. The DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center opened an investigation after the victim, now 15, came forward last fall.
Qazi, who has been in jail on $650,000 bail since his October arrest, was sentenced by Judge Blanche Hill Fawell. By law, he must serve at least 10 years and register as a sex offender for life.
