Barrington wins ash-borer grant
The village of Barrington has received a $20,000 emerald ash borer Grant for technical assistance in the control of the insect through the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, as part of a statewide forestry initiative. The funds will be used to conduct a comprehensive public tree inventory and create an emerald ash borer action plan. Inventory work is scheduled to begin in early June and both the inventory and action plan are expected to be completed by October. Village residents who believe they have seen infested ash trees should contact Mike Szymanski, village forester, at (847) 381-7903. Symptoms of the insect include a general appearance of poor health, very small āDā shaped exit holes in the bark and unusual sprouts on the trunk.
