Naperville parks lauds its volunteers

One of the many assets of the Naperville Park District is our corps of volunteers. With National Volunteer Week occurring last week and Earth Week coming to a close on April 24, I thought it would be fitting to pay tribute to the adults, teens and youth who help our programs run well, beautify our parks and welcome the community to many of our special events. We could not do what we do without them.

Naperville prides itself on being a community that gives back, and our data illustrates that fact. In 2010, the park district’s volunteer force was 3,800 individuals – a 15 percent increase over 2009. Additionally, a total of 77,775 volunteer hours were given to the park district. This amount is valued at more than $1.7 million. That’s amazing and a testament that our community is focused on helping one another.

Although orchestrated events like National Volunteer Week and Earth Week call attention to volunteerism during this time of year, like many other organizations, the park district relies on its volunteers all year round. From tree planting and park cleanup to coaching spring sports and helping staff our holiday events, volunteers make things happen.

On behalf of the Naperville Park District Board and staff, I am pleased to have the opportunity to say “thank you” to our volunteers. We truly appreciate all you do.
