Two horses abandoned in Fort Wayne park

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A veterinarian is evaluated two horses found apparently abandoned in a Fort Wayne park.

A woman walking through Johnny Appleseed Memorial Park Thursday morning found a gelding and filly eating grass inside the park.

Animal Care & Control director Belinda Lewis told The Journal Gazette and The News-Sentinel the horses appeared to have been abandoned by their owners and needed care. They appear to have upper respiratory infections.

She says the horses were skittish but eventually responded to offers of food from officers, allowing them to catch the horses. It took the officers two hours to secure the animals.
