Prospect Hts. man pleads guilty to mob action

A teenager was sentenced to 128 days in jail and 30 months’ probation Wednesday after pleading guilty to his involvement in a shooting last February at a Prospect Heights apartment complex.

No one was injured in the incident, which police say took place a little after 3 p.m. Feb. 16 on the 600 block of Piper Lane, about the same time school buses were unloading children.

Michael Bahena, 18, pleaded guilty to mob action. The judge also ordered Bahena to pay $650 in fines. He received credit for the 64 days he has been in custody since his arrest.

Police say Bahena’s co-defendant Carlos Teran, 19, fired a gun at a 26-year-old man driving a truck. Police say Teran, Bahena and an unnamed juvenile also charged with mob action flashed gang signs at the man, who told the defendants he was not in a gang. He claimed that as he tried to drive away, one of the men fired at him, police said.

Teran’s jury trial is scheduled to begin June 6 in Rolling Meadows.
