Johnny Weir's 'Ice Dreams' coming to Bensenville

It's easy to get distracted by figure skater Johnny Weir's reality TV show, experimental fashion sense and larger-than-life personality and forget he is a World medalist and three-time U.S. National Champion.

But on April 30 in Bensenville, the skating technique and precision that helped Weir make his name will be on display at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, during “Ice Dreams Starring Johnny Weir.”

He will be joined by other elite skaters, including World Junior bronze medalist Agnes Zawadski of Des Plaines and ice dance Olympian Melissa Gregory of Northfield.

Dozens of young skaters also will have the chance to perform on the same rink as the Olympic star. This year's show will feature 100 local skaters in a group number, and each was chosen through live and web auditions.

“Ice Dreams” will donate $1 of every ticket sold to the Japanese Red Cross in support of the relief effort. There also will be a silent auction the night of the show, with all proceeds to be donated to the Japanese Red Cross.
