Hoffman drop-off site for unused eyeglasses
Hoffman Estates is a proud supporter of EYEsee, a charitable organization founded by St. Viator High School students, that collects used eyeglasses and recycles them for distribution to the disadvantaged in the poorer areas of the world.
Their mission is to contribute toward improving the vision of the needy.
If you have an old pair of eyeglasses collecting dust in your home, please consider bringing them to the village hall, 1900 Hassell Road, where you can recycle them in a container located in the lobby.
You can donate any used or unwanted prescription or nonprescription pairs of eyeglasses. EYEsee accepts both plastic and metal frames, single-vision, bifocals, and progressive lenses.
There is also a great demand for children’s glasses.
They will even take sunglasses (regular or clip-on), as there is a need in countries near the equator where UV rays, which can cause severe damage to the eyes, are at their highest levels.
The eyeglasses will be sent overseas to various third-world countries via religious missions and qualified charitable organizations.
Those involved will ensure that your pair of eyeglasses is given to someone that matches or comes very close to your prescription. Presently, EYEsee’s beneficiaries reside in Haiti, Honduras, Philippines, Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Uganda.
