Boat, ATV damaged in Antioch fire Monday

Fire destroyed an Antioch-area garage, including a boat and an all-terrain vehicle, fire officials said.

Antioch Fire Protection District Fire Chief John Nixon said neighbors in the 38500 block of north Lakeside Lane called fire officials about 4:15 p.m. Monday to report that fire was seen on the exterior walls of a detached garage.

Nixon said fire was showing on the roof and walls of the structure when firefighters arrived at the blaze about 5 minutes later.

“No one was in the garage when it caught fire, and no firefighters were hurt battling the blaze,” he said. “It was an old wooden garage and there was no saving it when we rolled up, so we went into a defensive stance and put the fire out.”

The fire was controlled and out within 15 minutes of their arrival, but crews continued to douse hot spots embers until leaving the scene about 5:45 p.m., he said

The fire remains under investigation, but said a faulty battery charger seems to have sparked the blaze, Nixon said.
