Spring Sports at St. James School
The return of spring means the return of spring sports at St. James School. Spring sports include track, boys volleyball and girls softball.
The SJS Running Bulldogs compete in the Northwest Catholic Conference. The team is comprised of a boys and girls JV team (5th & 6th grade) and a boys and girls varsity team (7th & 8th grade). The varsity team also competes in the IESA State Sectionals and Finals. Last year, the 7th grade boys' varsity team took 3rd place in the State Sectionals and had two boys relay teams and three individuals make it to the State Finals in Peoria, Illinois. This year's team is made up of 49 runners. Events are 50M, 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1600M, 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, shot put and long jump.
There are also two girls' softball teams—14 girls on the JV team (5th & 6th grade) and 12 girls on Varsity (7th and 8th grade). The season began in early April and runs through May.
St. James has boys' volleyball teams for 6th through 8th grade. The 8th grade boys started out the season strong, winning second place in the St. Collette Tournament. The Bulldogs worked well together and everyone contributed to tournament success.
