Lombard Community Blood Drive Nets 166 Pints For Spring Drive

Bauer was able to convince one-time blood drive sponsor Yorktown Center to partner with the Village for its spring blood drive, which was held April 13.

But Yorktown Center and Famous Dave's Restaurant did more than partner with the Village on the blood drive. With the mall as an additional location for potential donors, Yorktown Center donated a $200 gift card and an overnight stay at the Lombard-Yorktown Westin Hotel. All blood donors were eligible to enter the drawing, which was held April 18 at Yorktown Center. Lombard resident Janet Stemm is the lucky winner.

In addition to the donation that Yorktown Center made, Famous Dave's Restaurant gave all donors at Yorktown a coupon to their restaurant while blood donors at Village Hall were treated to a coupon to the Lombard Culver's Restaurant. In addition, all donors received coupons from McDonald's, Therapeutic Connections and Walgreen's. All in all, 166 donations of blood were contributed to Heartland Blood Centers, with a total of 17 deferrals.

“The donations received will help save the lives of almost 500 people,” said Bauer. “Whether you donated blood, assisted by distributing literature or putting up a sign, we thank you,” she added.

The Village's next blood drive is scheduled for July 13.
