Elginites — visit your museums
On April 9, I had the opportunity to visit both the Elgin Fire Barn 5 Museum and the Elgin Public Museum. These two cultural jewels are right here in Elgin and are a perfect location to spend time with your children or grandchildren learning about all things historic as well as a fun time.
With today’s stressed family budgets they’re a low cost experience for the whole family.
It was a source of pride to see how we as a city council helped the Elgin Public Museum expand in the 1990s and helped the Elgin Fire Museum get started and to see how wonderful they’ve become today — even more importantly to see how volunteers took the idea of the Elgin Fire Museum and made it a reality. This same spirit of volunteerism can help save the Lord’s Park Zoo as well.
Elgin is so lucky to have these types of cultural attractions, so let’s not take them for granted because without support from our community we could lose them. Please patronize all of Elgin’s attractions both private as well as public.
