Aurora election no-shows: 92 percent

I would like to thank all of you who supported me during my run for Aurora Alderman-at-Large. As head of the strategic planning committee for the Aurora Downtown board, I’m committed to making Aurora a better place to live and work. And that commitment will never change.

Special thanks to my campaign manager, Deb Newman, and committee members Charlie Zine, Larry Leadley, Kevin Ohl, Mary Dougherty, Pete Martin and Robert Renteria. My only disappointment was the voter turnout. Beautiful weather, easy polling access, and yet 92 percent of the people were no-shows.

I was fortunate to have traveled through some Eastern Bloc countries in 1981 — including East Germany and Czechoslovakia. Not only did those people have no vote, they couldn’t even leave their countries. They had very little commerce, very little freedom, and no right to dissent for fear of their lives. It’s a privilege to vote and we take it for granted here. Please vote every chance you can.
