Hoffman Estates board approves street improvements
While campaigning for village trustee, some candidates noted that road conditions were a topic of concern among Hoffman Estates voters.
Less than a week after voters returned incumbent trustees Anna Newell, Gary Pilafas and Gary Stanton to office, they and the rest of the Hoffman Estates board approved more than $2.3 million in spending for annual street improvements.
The street revitalization program resurfaces, patches and reconstructs streets in the village. It also offers sidewalk replacements.
“It’s a good thing,” Trustee Raymond Kincaid said.
The board approved a contract to Schroeder Asphalt Services for $2.3 million, as well as material testing for $80,000 to Applied Geo Science. Both were the low bidders.
Funding for the work comes from a 2009 bond issue.
The village eventually will bid out services to reseal cracked pavement, which wasn’t part of Monday’s vote. Some of that work will affect the village-owned Sears Centre Arena, where parking lots need resealing.
Frederick Lane, Glen Lake Road, Meyer Road, Oakdale Road, Olmstead Drive, Pleasant Street and Williamsburg Drive are scheduled for reconstruction, which should start later this month.
Resurfacing is set to take place at Bedford Road, Eisenhower Circle, Hermitage Lane, Morton Street and Woodlawn Street.
The village will hold an open house about the projects from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27 at village hall’s Ed and Mary Hennessy Room. Check hoffmanestates.org/roadconstruction for updates on the road work.
