Libertyville D70 needs help with strategic plan
Libertyville parents, residents and business leaders are invited to help school administrators plot the future of District 70 during a two-day strategic planning session in May.
“This is a time of reflective practice,” said Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher. “Strategic Planning allows us to look closely at our goals and accomplishments, where we've come and where we hope to go as a district. This is a critical accountability component to our roles and responsibilities, providing a fresh look at our mission, vision, values and beliefs as we continue to educate children for tomorrow's future.”
Consultant Dr. Robert J. Madonia, a former superintendent for more than 20 years, will lead the strategic planning sessions. He will help guild a group of community stakeholders through the development of focus areas for the future. From time to time, he also will return to the strategic document to make sure the plan is progressing. Madonia's background also includes school curriculum, finance, and teacher development.
Applications to attend the session to create a five-year strategic plan for the school district are available through Becky Der-Yeghiayan at the Educational Resource Center at (847) 362-8393.
The planning sessions will run from 5:30-9 p.m. on May 13 and from 8 a.m. to noon on May 14 at the ERC, 1381 W. Lake St., across from Butterfield School. Applications will be accepted until April 15.
The district's last five-year strategic plan, which carries the district through this year, addressed revamping the gifted education program, addressing child obesity through healthy eating and wellness, developing more in-depth teacher training, adding social networking tools to enhance communication, maintaining aging school buildings, enhancing the district and area business relationship, and keeping technology on the cutting edge.
The new plan is expected to touch on these topics, along with addressing new needs in the district. Data from last year's parent and staff surveys also will be used as a guiding tool in mapping out for the district's future.
