Firm will build two soccer fields in Elk Grove

A business that will build and operate two soccer fields was approved Tuesday by the Elk Grove Village board.

Champions Fields at Devon Avenue and Tonne Road will open in five or six weeks, said Eva Strzelczynska. Later she plans to install a Polish buffet-style restaurant in a vacant space in the adjacent Devon Avenue Market Shopping Center.

Turf will be installed this year with artificial turf planned for the second season.

The board said the fields — which will host teams and leagues — can operate until 11 p.m., but if there are complaints the village will work with the company this year and change the time limit for the following season.

Strzelczynska also operates indoor soccer fields in Franklin Park. She can be contacted at championsfields@yahoo.com.

Mayor Craig Johnson also said the vacancy rate in the Elk Grove Business Park has fallen from 15 percent at the heart of the recession to 12.26 percent now, representing more than 3.5 million once-vacant square feet that are now filled.

Great Wall, a distributor of fish and seafood, moved its corporate headquarters and distribution from Toledo, Ohio, to 950 Arthur Ave. The company employs about 100 people in the 138,000-square-foot building.

Chicago Parts and Sound, a distributor of aftermarket auto parts, moved from Wood Dale to 1150 Lively Blvd. The company employs 30 people.

Championship Billiards will be moving from Lincolnwood and will create 23 jobs in 38,000 square feet at 1001 Morse Ave. Championship manufactures and sells billiards equipment.

MS International, a California-based distributor of marble, will expand its business in Elk Grove to 212,000 square feet at 1441 Jarvis Ave. The Midwestern distribution hub will employ 30 people.
