Teens charged in Libertyville burglaries
Two teens have been linked to a string of residential burglaries that occurred over the weekend in Libertyville, according to police.
Bail was sat at $250,000 for 17-year-old Scott Clemmens of Libertyville after he and a 16-year-old juvenile were arrested Sunday morning, according to authorities.
Both Clemmens and the 16-year-old boy were charged with five felony counts of residential burglary and one count of burglary, according to police.
Police said the two entered unlocked vehicles, attached garages and in some cases entered homes where people were sleeping and stole laptop computers, iPads, iPods and cameras.
The crimes were committed overnight between Saturday evening and Sunday morning in various parts of Libertyville, police said.
“These burglaries were all crimes of opportunity made much easier because residents failed to lock and secure their property,” said Police Chief Clint Herdegen.
Police recovered a majority of the stolen items.
Clemmens, of the 1000 block of West Golf Road and the juvenile were both arrested on that same block at 8 a.m. Sunday, according to police.
The 16-year-old was taken to a juvenile detention center in Vernon Hills Monday.
