What distinguishes Libya? Oil
So, now we are in Libya. Why? Because the good people of Libya thirst for freedom and liberty! We must rush to their defense. OK, well, um, right next door is Darfur in Sudan. Haven’t the 2.5 million-plus that have been displaced there been thirsting for freedom?
What about the hundreds of thousands that were murdered over the past few years? It has been labeled a genocide. What about the mother who has to decide whether to leave the “safety” of her refugee camp to find kindling to cook with in order to feed her children? Feed her children or be gang raped, multiple times, if attacked by the Janjaweed militiamen.
Too bad the Sudanese weren’t sitting on a deposit of sweet, lovely and irresistible light crude that has afforded the good people of Libya our full attention. Don’t kid yourselves. This is, once again, all about oil.
Money is that root of all evil and all that is bad about our world. But, oil is knocking at money’s door.
