Show love and mercy, regardless of faith

Recently, Terry Jones, the “pastor” in Florida has burned a Quran. This pastor is part of a fringe group — he does not represent the majority of Christians. In fact, his actions are not very Christian.

Christians are taught by God’s Word, the Bible, to respect other people, esteem others as better than ourselves, and to be kind to others. Jesus Christ taught us to “love one another.” He came to die on the cross to pay for our sins, and while on the cross in agony, he prayed, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

In Afghanistan, the response to the burning of the Quran, was to kill people in retaliation. I’m hoping this is only the response of radicals (and the average Muslim would not do this). Many times people have burned our Bibles, and in many parts of the world Christians are persecuted. When this happens Christians are saddened, but do not respond with violence.

It would be a better world if everyone, regardless of what religion they claim to belong to, would follow these teachings — love others and show mercy.
