Sky signs former Wisconsin star
The Chicago Sky has signed sharpshooting guard Jolene Anderson to a training camp contract.
The 5-foot-8 Anderson, 25, was originally selected by the Connecticut Sun in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2008 WNBA Draft. She started 7 of the 24 games in which she played, averaging 15.3 minutes, 4.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per game before leaving the team at the end of the season and signing with Villeneuve d’Ascq in northern France.
Currently playing in Turkey for Botasspor Adana, she has averaged a team-leading 20.4 points as well as 7.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 34.3 minutes per game. She also logged six 30+ point games while shooting 47.4 percent from the floor and 32.2 percent from three-point range on the season.
“She’s obviously a very good shooter, but she has truly developed her game and is currently one of the top scorers in Europe,” said Pokey Chatman, the head coach and general manager of the Sky. “She recently led her team to the Turkish league semifinals. We look forward to having her join our squad with her ability to stretch the defense.”
A native of Port Wing, Wis., Anderson set University of Wisconsin’s all-time scoring record in 2008 with 2,312 points. She was a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection and was named the 2008 Big Ten Player of the Year. She is the only UW player to rank among the top 10 in four major career categories: 1st with 2,312 points; 6th with 848 rebounds; 4th with 409 assists; and 6th with 242 steals.
