Wheeling man sentenced to prison for 5th DUI

A Wheeling man charged with his fifth DUI in January was sentenced to three years in prison this week after prosecutors amended the charges against him to a class 2 felony, punishable by three to seven years in prison.

A Wheeling police officer stopped Agustin Teran, 31, for a traffic violation on Jan. 22, and noticed a strong odor of alcohol about him. Teran failed field sobriety tests and refused to take a Breathalyzer test, authorities said.

It’s not the first time he’s been sentenced to prison for a DUI, authorities said. For his last conviction in 2005, Teran was sentenced to three years in prison, prosecutors said during his bond hearing in January.

The judge also ordered Teran to pay $1,790 in fines.

He received credit for the 75 days he has spent in custody since his arrest.
