No injuries in Naperville house fire
No injuries were reported Thursday evening when fire struck a Naperville house and caused more than $70,000 damage, authorities said Friday.
The homeowners were displaced for the night but were expected to be able to move back into the house on Friday.
Firefighters said they responded at 8:27 p.m. Thursday to a report of a fire in the 500 block of Beaconsfield.
The first unit arrived on the scene at 8:33 p.m. and reported smoke coming from the rear of the home, authorities said. Crews took a hose inside to battle the blaze.
Additional companies began ventilating the roof to relieve the heat and smoke inside the home. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes.
The homeowners reported they were burning wood in the fireplace when they noticed smoke escaping at the ceiling level of the prefabricated fireplace. They immediately called 911 and fled.
