Sherman Men's Club to host Healthy Heart Walkaton May 14

To raise awareness of heart disease in the community, the Sherman Men's Health Alliance will host its annual Healthy Heart Walk-A-Thon from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14. The walk will take place on Sherman's three-quarter mile walking path, surrounding the 15-acre geothermal lake on the hospital campus, 1425 N. Randall Road in Elgin. Proceeds from the event will support SMHA's pledge for a new room in the Heart & Vascular Center at Sherman Hospital.

This fun-filled event for the entire family will include the walk, a mini heart fair on Sherman's Lakeside Terrace, nutritious snacks, fun giveaways and more. The schedule for the event includes:

• 8 a.m.: Registration

• 8:30 a.m.: Opening remarks

• 9 a.m.: Stretching with the Sherman Cardiac Rehab and Sherman Physical Therapists

• 9:15 a.m.: Sherman's four-legged volunteers from its Animal Assisted Therapy program will lead the first lap around the lake.

Registration for the event is $25 per walker, payable by cash or check made out to Sherman Men's Health Alliance. Additional pledges are welcome. For early registration and to learn about sponsorship opportunities, please contact Sherman Health Foundation at (224) 783-3913.
