Appendectomy sidelines Sox Adam Dunn
According to White Sox spokesman Bob Beghtol, designated hitter Adam Dunn had laproscopic appendectomy surgery after Tuesday night's loss to the Royals.
Since it was a noninvasive procedure, Dunn is only expected to miss “up to five games.”
Dunn was 0-for-4 with 1 strikeout in the Sox' 7-6 loss in 12 innings to Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium Tuesday.
He is scheduled to be on the charter flight to Chicago after Wednesday's game against the Royals. The White Sox' home opener is Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays (1:10 p.m.).
Through the first 4 games, Dunn is batting .286 with 1 home run, 5 RBI and a 1.045 OPS.
This is the second big-name appendectomy of the young season.
St. Louis Cardinals left fielder Matt Holliday also had laparoscopic surgery to remove his appendix last Friday.
He was able to play catch and run a few sprints on Tuesday, but Holliday has yet to swing a bat.
Another left-handed hitter, Mark Teahen, is likely to replace Dunn.
