Wilson saves day for Wheaton North with defense

Paige Wilson made a game-saving play in the bottom of the seventh, preserving a 2-1 Wheaton North win over York on Tuesday.

With a runner on second and two outs, York’s Grace Sullivan hit a rocket up the middle that Wilson made a diving stop on. Wilson threw out the York baserunner trying to get back to third base for the game’s final out.

Winning pitcher Kahla Nolan (4-1) struck out 13 for Wheaton North (6-2), which won its fifth straight. Wilson had a double and Annie Thomas went 2-for-3. Sullivan went 4-for-4 with a double for York (1-4).

Glenbard South 8, Riverside-Brookfield 1:

The Raiders erupted for 7 runs in the top of the second inning and coasted to a Metro Suburban Conference win. Jane Trzaska went 2-for-4 with a double. Olivia Ramirez, Jenny Wittenberg and Danielle Chitkowski also had 2 hits for Glenbard South (3-0, 1-0). Jess Wilkes (2-0) allowed 3 hits, striking out seven.

Waubonsie Valley 9, Larkin 7:

Amanda Minihan homered twice and drove in 5 runs, powering the Warriors (3-3, 1-0 Upstate Eight Conference) in Elgin.

Neuqua Valley 5, St. Charles East 0:

Leigh Nebendahl homered, doubled and drove in 3 runs for the visiting Wildcats (3-0, 1-0 Upstate Eight Conference). Brooke Meyer went 2-for-2 and Jena Boudreau (3-0) struck out four.

Glenbard North 13, Addison Trail 0:

Alyssa Jasinski, Sydney Benz and Ashley Stiver all slugged their first homers of the year for the Panthers (6-0). Jasinski drove in 4 runs, Benz had 3 RBI and winning pitcher Lindsey Cherry (2-0) struck out 10.

Lisle 9, Aurora Central 2:

Melanie Early (1-0) struck out 12 and went 3-for-5 at the plate for the Lions, who scored 3 runs in the sixth and 4 more in the seventh to break open a tie game. Grace Riley went 2-for-2 and scored 2 runs for Lisle (3-0).

Wheaton Academy 13, Aurora Christian 3:

Freshman Marissa Gagliano homered on first pitch of her first home game, and the Warriors (1-3) went on to their first win of the season. Emily Hillstrom singled in the tying and go-ahead runs in the first after Gagliano’s homer.

Montini 5, IMSA 1:

Emily Barg went 2-for-3, scored 2 runs and drove in a run and Rose Speidel went 2-for-3 with an RBi for the Broncos (2-2).

Downers Grove South 7, West Aurora 2:

Jenny Nichols and Jackie Tonoff both homered, Nichols going 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for the Mustangs (3-1). Marissa Mersch went 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI.

Glenbard West 17, Willowbrook 1:

Michele Waggoner slugged a grand slam and drove in 5 runs and Dayle Comerford went 3-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI for the host Hilltoppers (3-1).

Fenton 7, Timothy Christian 1:

Alyssa Ciepley (5-1) scattered 8 hits and Tara Lawson went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles for the Bison (6-2, 1-0 Metro Suburban) in Elmhurst. Candice Rivera drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth and added an RBI double in the sixth. Kelly Kielbasa added a 2-run double in the seventh. Kari LeGrand and Christina Lemon both went 2-for-3 for Timothy Christian.

St. Francis 4, Sandwich 0:

Taylor Ronchetto hurled a shutout for the host Spartans (3-2).
