Two incumbents, newcomer win Carol Stream trustee race
Two incumbents and one newcomer won election Tuesday in the race for three seats on the Carol Stream village board.
With all 27 precincts reporting, incumbent Greg Schwarze led all vote-getters with 2,925 votes, followed by Mary Frusolone with 2,329 and incumbent Don Weiss with 2,275. James Joseph, finished with 2,166 votes, according to unofficial results.
Frusolone, 38, an administrative assistant with Carol Stream Park District, said she was motivated to run for office as a result of the village’s flood response in July 2010. She said Tuesday she would bring an outsider’s perspective to the board.
“I’m always going to be the person doing what’s best for residents and not necessarily the ‘yes person’ on the board just because everyone else is saying ‘yes,’” she said.
Schwarze, 45, a Carol Stream firefighter/paramedic and trustee since 2007, is known for reminding residents at village board meetings to “Shop Carol Stream.” The village does not have a property tax, and all candidates in the race said they would oppose instituting one.
Weiss, 46, who is director of community relations for the village of Addison, emphasized his independent streak during the campaign, pointing out he hasn’t been afraid to vote against the majority since he was elected to the board in 2007.
The winning candidates will be seated at the village board’s May 2 meeting.
