Sugar Grove police investigate attempted abduction Tuesday
Sugar Grove Police are investigating an attempted child abduction of an 11-year-old boy Tuesday after he got off the school bus.
The boy, who lives in the Strafford Woods subdivision, reported to police that he saw a red vehicle with four doors parked in a cul-de-sac after he got of the school bus at about 3:45 p.m.
An elderly woman with gray hair and a pale complexion was driving the vehicle, and an elderly male passenger got out and offered the boy some candy.
He refused and ran home to tell his mother.
Sugar Grove Investigator John Sizer said Wednesday many neighbors have communicated this incident via e-mail blasts, but police wanted to put out the information to a wider area.
He also noted that a police officer who lives in a nearby subdivision heard the dispatch Tuesday and recalled that a red sport utility vehicle, possibly a Ford Explorer, with two elderly passengers, was seen in the subdivision last week and drew suspicion but no attempted abductions took place.
“There was no incident (last week). It was just an observation,” Sizer said. “It struck them as odd. It didn't seem to fit.”
Police ask that if anyone sees this vehicle, to watch it, get the license plate and call 911. The SUV was described as a dark red or maroon.
Anyone else with information about this vehicle or incident should call Sugar Grove Police at (630) 466-4526.
