Sidor, Hayes, Scaletta, Blackwood win for Arlington Hts. board
Michael Sidor credited a “very well-run campaign” Tuesday for his election — along with three incuments — to the Arlington Heights Village Board.
Thomas W. Hayes, who has been on the board 20 years, led with 4,106 votes in unofficial results. John Scaletta, seeking his second term, was second with 4,071. Carol Blackwood, who was appointed to the board a year ago, had 3,943 votes, and Sidor, who owns a translation business and ran unsuccessfully two years ago, won the final seat with 3,885.
Sidor said he will work well with the current board and did not think any particular issues account for his win.
“I think I had a little name recognition and some supporters from the last campaign,” he said. “The advocacy work I've done for people helped me be more recognized.”
Bruce Green, an architect and chairman of the Arlington Heights Plan Commission, lost with 2,980 votes. He agreed with Sidor that the race did not hinge on issues.
Green said the incumbents deserve the advantage of name recognition, and Sidor started campaigning much earlier than he did. He called not being endorsed by the Daily Herald “a tough hurdle to get over.”
“I am happy I can stay involved on the Plan Commission,” said Green. “I really like being on it and serving the village. Campaigning is a heck of a lot of work, and I'm disappointed, but I don't have a grudge against anyone.”
The vacancy was caused by the retirement of Tom Stengren after 20 years on the board.
