Rosemont surgeons group targets distracted driving

A surgeons group based in Rosemont is launching a campaign against distracted driving and wants the public's help collecting stories about drivers who text behind the wheel.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is supporting the "Decide to Drive" public awareness campaign hoping to prevent crashes. They are the doctors who put bones and limbs back together after traumatic injuries.

The campaign includes ads about how dangerous it can be to use a cell phone, apply makeup, eat or search for personal items while driving.

People can submit their own stories about distracted driving on the website www.decidetodrive.org.

The surgeons group is cooperating with the Orthopaedic Trauma Association on the campaign, which will include educational materials for schools next fall.
