‘Jiggle Jam’ concert coming to Indian Trails library

“Jiggle Jam,” a “musicfest” for kids ages 3-7 performed by Jodi Koplin, will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 9, at Indian Trails Public Library, 355 S. Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling.

The music ranges from old favorites to some of Koplin’s original songs. Her songs can range from humorous to serious, but always reflecting the awe and wonder that is unique to children.

Koplin blends the messages of having fun with those of personal growth. Then she places these messages into a wide range of musical styles, from rock and roll to calypso, boogie and blues. The inspiration comes from children in the world around her.

The song “I’m a Big Boy Now” was written after watching her own 6-year-old grow and mature during his year in kindergarten. “I Gotta Pocket” tells of the treasures that her students carry with them in their pockets, and “Get Dressed Boogie” tells of the challenges facing a 2-year-old who refuses to get dressed in the morning.

Koplin has a master’s degree in social work and has worked in the field. After being a stay-at-home mom for several years she decided to try her hand at children’s entertainment, which gave her the opportunity to work and remain home most of the time to raise her children.

She has now performed in the Chicago area for nearly two decades. A longtime faculty member of Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music, she recently released her first CD of children’s music, “Jumpin’ Bean.”

Registration is not required, for “Jiggle Jam,” but tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the program.
