Urb helps strengthen lifeline for Illinois Veterans
Deerfield based United Relief Foundation is pleased to announce that Urb Chicago, located at 7250 North Cicero Avenue in Lincolnwood, has become a Hope and Help Partner in providing housing for Illinois veterans.
As a Hope and Help Partner, Urb Chicago has pledged the resources necessary to guide the United Relief Foundation through the process of identifying and acquiring desirable houses that can be easily renovated into homes for Veterans.
Upon taking procession of a property the United Relief Foundation organizes and oversees every aspect of the renovation while other Foundation Hope and Help Partners, who are already serving Veterans, pre-qualify and assist potential home owner candidates.
“Along with his enthusiasm and generosity, Urb's president Brian Urbanowski offers the invaluable experience that will help assure the Foundation is successful in achieving our ambitious goal to providing housing for Illinois veterans”, comments United Relief Foundation president Frank Salato. “One reason volunteers and donors are attracted to the United Relief Foundation is because we make a tangible connection between contributors and recipients. Think how real and rewarding it is when a Veteran, and his or her family, moves into a home you help to provide.”
Based on the January 2011 National Alliance to End Homelessness State of Homelessness report, an estimated 14,055 people experience homelessness each night in Illinois and 15% are veterans and while circumstantial factors vary, homelessness occurs when people or households are unable to acquire and/or maintain housing they can afford.
Furthermore, the National Alliance to End Homelessness reports the main reason behind this inability to and/or maintain housing is the scarcity of affordable housing.
It is clear that homelessness remains as an unfortunate, serious social issue. Fortunately however this problem is one with a clear solution – housing – and the United Relief Foundation is engaged in ways to make that solution a reality.
United Relief Foundation's Project Restoring Hope supplies the essential, ongoing needs that aid homeless Veteran's reintegration into society and shall provide the long term, positive life changing opportunities for Veterans that comes from home ownership.
