Garbage truck drives into Gurnee townhouse

A Gurnee home was damaged Monday afternoon when a garbage truck somehow veered off a neighborhood road and rammed into the residence’s back patio door.

Gurnee firefighters and ComEd workers were called to the scene in a neighborhood near the intersection of Route 21 and Gages Lake Road at around 1 p.m. after the truck first struck an electrical box and then the back door, fire officials said.

The garbage truck was on Dunham Road before it made its way across a 25 foot back lawn and into the back door of a townhouse at 710 Creekside Circle, according to authorities.

ComEd was called to the scene to shut off the power supply because the electrical box was damaged.

No one was injured during the crash, but the house received minor damage, officials said.

Police could not be reached Monday night to see if the driver of the truck was cited.
