Dart wins award for halting evictions
For halting evictions of homeowners in the wake of a nationwide “robo-signing” scandal, Cook County Sheriff Dart will receive a national justice award today from New York City’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Dart refused to carry out mortgage foreclosures following the disclosure of a “robo-signing” scandal last fall which revealed that some lenders had staff members sign hundreds of foreclosure documents a day without verifying the information there them.
Dart will receive the John Jay Medal for Justice Community Leader Award. Following Tuesday’s ceremony, Dart will discuss the programs he’s implemented at the Cook County Jail to combat recidivism.
