Vote for Arlington trustees who support slots at track
Trustees are local representatives for all residents. Residents' tax dollars support the village. Services cost money. Arlington Racecourse provides millions for schools and hundreds of thousands in tax revenue. Sans slots at Arlington, horse racing will be forced out of Arlington Hts.
Racetrack visitors spend money at local businesses (the vacant hotel at Wilke and Euclid) and used to attract conventions, visitors and revenue to our community.
Local support for slots at the track would make the state's decision easier.
Candidates Hayes and Sidor are opposed to slots. Sidor doesn't think it fits the village's image; Hayes doesn't want people to think of Arlington Heights as a place people come to gamble.
Image appears to be their facts.
Real facts: Empty storefronts, blighted homes, under/unemployed and undeveloped unfinished construction projects are part of Arlington Heights image. All of these situations reduce tax revenue, cut services or increase taxes on everyone!
Candidate Blackwood, “Who am I to tell them how to run their business?” she continues. “... Everything at Arlington Park has always been done in a world class manner.” Candidates Green and Scaletta appear to be more realistic as well.
Stop the fear! A world class operation must insure its image or no one will attend. Think when you vote. Fixed income, lost job and house, blight in your block and reduced services. Our choice, we pay higher taxes for lost revenue from an excellent community partner or protect the “perceived” image.
