Reach out and Run 5K in Libertyville
The fifth annual Reach Out and Run 5k Run/Walk is set for Saturday, April 9 at Independence Grove in Libertyville.
This year is shaping up to be the largest attended event, according to organizers, who said the race is tracking for more than 500 participants.
This event is designed for all runners, walkers, strollers and kids, and will benefit those in need in Lake County. Proceeds from the race are distributed through St. Vincent DePaul.
The local chapters of St. Gilbert in Grayslake and St. Paul the Apostle in Gurnee have found the need is great in these trying times in Lake County for those seeking temporary financial assistance due to loss of employment, health issues or other emergency situations, organizers said in a news release.
St. Vincent DePaul provides assistance to individuals and families who need help with housing, utilities, food or other basic necessities without regard to religious affiliation.
The 5k run/walk course takes participants around the loops of Lake County’s Independence Grove Forest Preserve, a popular recreation destination with rolling prairies, wide-open spaces, and woodlands that surround a beautiful 115-acre lake. Independence Grove opened to the public in 2001.
The first 500 registrants for the 5k run/walk will receive a free race technical shirt and a goody bag filled with coupons and gifts from the sponsors.
Awards will be given to the top overall male and female finishers and to the top three men and women in specific age groups.
Registrations will be accepted for 5k runners/walkers online through April 7. Preregistration fee is $30, race day registration is $35. The race is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. rain or shine.
The Kids Fun Run, for children 14 and under, is a quarter-mile up and back. Registration is $15 on the day of race. All Kids Fun Run participants also receive a T-shirt and goody bag.
