Holy Family Academy Showcases Student Artists

In an era when budget constraints are forcing many schools to eliminate fine arts, Holy Family Academy in Inverness is celebrating the value art brings to its students. Not only does an art curriculum help students gain an appreciation for the visual world of art, but Mrs. Bev Breen, art teacher at Holy Family, views art instruction as having a therapeutic quality. “Our children are caught up in a very competitive society beginning at a very young age. It is my hope that all children can become comfortable enough to find a medium that helps them to create something they are proud of and that makes them feel good about themselves.”

Student art is displayed in almost every hallway throughout the Holy Family Campus. It is not only a source of pride for the student artists, but is enjoyed by all visitors to the campus, which is part of Holy Family Parish. Additionally, from now until April 8 Holy Family students' art will be on display thanks to an invitation from the Village of Hoffman Estates Arts Commission. The following student artists, by hometown, will be on exhibit: Enzo deVente and Alicia Mendoza of Barrington; Arianna Mormino of Cary; Sarah Anderson, Abby Boelens, David Bowen, Grace Hammond, Gabriella Hoxie, Grace Miller and Matt Wagner of Hoffman Estates; Anna Freveletti, Kyla Geitner, Grace Grzybek, and Tugg Hollandsworth of Inverness; Gina Aretos, Kellie Halloran, Ruben Hinojosa, Alex Kaminsky, Jack Koeneman, Jenna Koeneman, and Grace Schiyer of Palatine; Ben Avers, Josh Butera, Emma Christoffer and Jessica Christoffer of South Barrington; and Olivia Franzese of West Dundee.

“I am so proud of the work of these students,” says Mrs. Breen. “These children have been able to use a variety of mediums to express themselves as individuals and gain confidence in all areas of life.” Art work from students kindergarten through middle school can be viewed at Hoffman Estates Village Hall 1900 Hassell Rd., Hoffman Estates from 8:30-8pm Monday through Friday and 9-noon on Saturdays now until April 8.
