A.J. Friedman went 2-for-4 with three RBI to support a strong pitching performance from Tyler Friel as Marmion notched a 6-1 victory over host Sandwich in Game 1 of Saturday’s nonconference doubleheader.
The Cadets overcame an early 4-0 deficit in Game 2 to claim a 6-5 victory and complete the sweep.
Travis Siwiec belted a home run and drove in a pair for Marmion (4-3) in the opener while Kyle Kozak scored twice.
In the second game, the Cadets tied the game with a four-run third, then tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth.
Steven Bryant went 4-for-4 with 2 RBI and Mike Pipp tripled, drove in two and scored twice. Shane Cano (2-0) earned the victory and Siwiec picked up the save.
Baseball
Batavia 4, Jacobs 0: Michael Rutas went the distance for the host Bulldogs, allowing just four hits in a complete-game shutout.
Batavia (2-1) broke open a scoreless game with a three-run fifth. With one out, Rob Bowman and Braden Hrack put together back-to-back singles. Sam Burnoski delivered a two-run single and Jay Clark followed with a two-out RBI base hit to plate Burnoski.
Joe Sortino launched a solo home run in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Greg Mixon took the loss for Jacobs (1-2), allowing just three hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Aurora Christian 10-16, Westmont 5-5: Kenny McCracken launched a pair of solo home runs to lead the visiting Eagles to a Game 1 win while Mitch Holtz homered and drove in five as part of a 19-hit attack in the second game.
Todd Clapp, Bobby Kuntzendorf and Jake Hanson each collected 2 hits for Aurora Christian (5-2) in the opener to support winning pitcher Brent Minta.
The Eagles bats remained hot as Holtz, Minta, Kuntzendorf and Josh Haugen stroked three hits apiece in the second game. Caleb Apker gave up three earned runs in four innings for the win.
