Road repairs on tap in Glen Ellyn

Construction season is about to begin in Glen Ellyn with a $2.4 million road improvement project just south of downtown.

Starting at the end of April crews will rebuild about 4,500 feet of roads and install new water mains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers. Streets scheduled for improvements are Sunset Avenue from Fairview Avenue to Turner Avenue; Turner from Newton Avenue to Regent Street and from Sunset to Forest Avenue; and Glenwood Avenue from Turner to Hill Avenue.

Addison-based R.W. Dunteman Company submitted the lowest bid of 10 — just less than $2,240,000 — which was nearly 30 percent less than what the village estimated, said Bob Minix, Glen Ellyn's professional engineer.

The contract award, approved this week by the village board, includes a 5 percent contingency for roadway, storm sewer and general items and a 10 percent contingency for water and sanitary sewer work.

Minix said Dunteman has done village construction projects in the past, most recently last year's Riford Road project.

Civiltech Engineering, Inc. will provide engineering services on the project for $300,000 with a 5 percent contingency. Minix said a public information meeting about the project will be held in April.

Work is expected to be completed in early September.
