Man charged in Naperville burglaries

Naperville police arrested a man in connection with several recent storefront burglaries in which offenders forced entry into businesses and pocketed cash.

Michael J. Carvell, 30, of Clarendon Hills, was charged Friday with seven counts of Class 2 felony burglary and one count of Class 3 felony attempted burglary, police said.

Police said they found Carvell in possession of a large rock about 1:15 a.m. near a business in the 1500 block of West Ogden Avenue and took him into custody. He was at the Naperville Police Department Friday afternoon awaiting transfer to DuPage County jail, authorities said.

A string of 10 burglaries occurred between Sunday and Thursday at businesses along 75th Street in Naperville and one location on North Route 59, authorities said.

The burglaries all occurred in the overnight or early morning hours and the crime scenes shared another similarity — broken glass — a sign the offender or offenders used an object to shatter the windows and gain entry, according to police.

Police increased patrols around the reported burglary sites and are coordinating an ongoing investigation with several other agencies that have received recent reports of similar commercial burglaries.
