Westlake Christian Academy’s Varsity Soccer team took second place in the IL/WI Association of Christian Schools International state tournament, hosted recently by Cornerstone Christian Academy in Sycamore.

Westlake (seeded seventh) defeated the second-seeded team, Tri-State Christian of Galena, 2-1, in their first game, with Tri-State only scoring at the 79th minute mark. This was followed by a 6-0 trouncing of the sixth-ranked host school.

In the championship game, Westlake faced number one seed Faith Christian of Dixon. Senior Brett Robinson netted the Eagles their first goal on a penalty kick.

The Eagles made Faith earn every bit of a 2-1 lead going into the final minutes of regulation. Shifting to a more offensive formation, the Eagles scored on a header by senior Tom Kang (assisted by junior Stephan Worman) to tie the game 2-2 and send it into overtime.

Westlake gave up an early goal, and was forced to use the offensive formation trying to equalize the score. Faith capitalized on this for a 5-2 win and dropped Westlake into the second place.

The Eagles finished their season with a .500 record at 5-5-2.
