Huntley’s baseball team waited until its final out Thursday to save its unbeaten season, but unbeaten the Red Raiders remain.
Huntley (4-0) scored 2 runs with two outs in the seventh inning to earn a 2-1 win over Hoffman Estates in a nonconference game at Huntley.
Nick Bralich recorded the game-tying RBI with a double while Brady Burkart stepped up and knocked in the game-winning run.
Jake Staab earned the victory on the mound as he threw a complete game, 5 hitter while striking out seven and allowing just 1 run.
Cary-Grove 6, Kaneland 0: The Trojans (3-3) scored early and never looked back as they shut out Kaneland at Rent One Ball Park in southern Illinois. Michael Vilardo recorded a home run and 2 RBI while Tyler Lau added a triple and an RBI of his own. Matt Panek turned in a 2-for-4 performance from the plate as he picked up the Trojans’ other 3 RBI. Vilardo (1-0) also recorded the victory on the mound as he pitched 3 scoreless innings, surrendering 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out four.
Hampshire 12, Crystal Lake Central 6: The Whip-Purs (1-3) earned their first victory of the season on the road after falling behind 4-1 in the first inning of play. Nick Holze (2-for-4, 4 runs, 3 RBI), Zack Skog (2-for-4, 3 RBI), and Jake Kuhn (2-for-3, 2 RBI) each recorded a double for the Whip-Purs while Tad Merchut added 2 RBI. Kuhn (1-0) earned the victory throwing 5 innings while giving up 4 earned runs, 9 hits, 3 walks, and striking out three.
Buffalo Grove 12, Elgin 3: The Maroons (0-2) were unable to hold off the Bison’s strong offensive attack as they fell at home. Lee Jackson recorded 2 of the Maroons’ 4 hits while also driving in 2 runs. David Penaloza (0-1) suffered the loss as he threw 3 innings, giving up 5 earned runs and 8 hits.
Rockford Boylan 7, Jacobs 2: The Golden Eagles started off slow as they fell behind 6-0 after 2 innings of play and could not put together a big enough rally to come back. Nate Anderson paced Jacobs offensively going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles while Henry Giegeous also added a double and an RBI. Dillion O’Toole recorded the Golden Eagles other RBI. Bret Kale (0-1) suffered the loss after throwing 1 innings and allowing 5 earned runs on 6 hits.
Prospect 11, Bartlett 1 (6 innings): The Hawks (2-2) took an early lead, but 8 errors led to 8 unearned runs as they were defeated by Prospect. John Fleming was the lone Hawk to record a multihit game with 2 hits while Tyler Farina drove in their only run. Cory Motz (1-1) suffered the loss as he threw 4 innings while striking out 4 and allowing 6 hits.
Streamwood 7, Fenton 3: Josh Harris led the Sabres (4-0) both offensively and on the mound as Streamwood defeated Fenton on the road. Harris recorded a 3-run home run and 2 doubles while also earning the save on the mound as he threw 3 innings of 1 hit baseball and struck out eight. Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle also recorded a multihit game with 3 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI. Richie Gorski (1-0) earned the victory on the mound as he threw 4 innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 walk, and 1 earned run while striking out two.
Stevenson 9, Crystal Lake South 6: The Gators put up 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but their rally fell just short as they were defeated by Stevenson at home. Chris Hauser (3-for-4, 2 runs), Ryan Price (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), and Max Meitzler (2-for-3, 2 doubles) each recorded multihit games to lead the Gators offensively. Robbie Lemke (1-1) suffered the loss.
Mundelein 10, Westminster Christian 2: The Warriors could not get the offense rolling is they fell to Mundelein at Southern Illinois University. Ryan Perez (triple) recorded 3 of the Warriors’ 5 hits in the game while also drawing a walk. Kevin Elder and Ben Stevenson each added an RBI. Perez suffered the loss on the mound as he struck out five and allowed 8 runs.
Cobden 5, Westminster Christian 4: The Warriors (1-3) dropped their second game of the day in a heartbreaker as their seventh inning comeback fell 1 run short. Kevin Elder paced the Warriors with a 3-for-3 performance with a double and 2 RBI while John Wawro went 2-for-2 at the plate. Dylan Scully suffered the loss as he did not give up an earned run and allowed only 2 hits in 3 innings of work.
