Dunn homers in White Sox finale

White Sox starter Jake Peavy passed his minor league intrasquad test in Glendale with ease as the rest of his teammates dropped a 3-2 decision to Kansas City in Surprise, Ariz.

Bruce Chen picked up the victory in the spring training finale against the White Sox, holding them to Adam Dunn’s homer in the first and four hits in five innings of work. The veteran left-hander, who won 12 games for Kansas City last season, walked four and struck out four.

The Sox finished with a 11-20-1 record in Cactus League player while the Royals finished 20-10-1.

The Royals scored all their runs in the third on a double and sacrifice fly followed by a two-run homer by Brayan Pena homered with Alcides Escobar aboard.

The White Sox also scored a run in the sixth when rookie reliever Jeremy Jeffress walked three, including one with the bases loaded.

Brandon Hynick pitched five innings for Chicago, allowing 3 runs and 7 hits.

The White Sox will close camp and head to Winston-Salem, N.C. to play their Class A club on Wednesday. The team will arrive in Cleveland on Thursday to workout before Friday’s season opening game against the Indians.

Peavy update:

Jake Peavy retired all 13 batters he faced in his minor league test Tuesday morning. He told Scott Merkin of MLB.com he felt good afterward.

“Here we go again,” Peavy said in a reserved but satisfied tone. “We tried it before, and hopefully we can sustain it this time.

The White Sox had shut Peavy down after his last outing on March 19 ended with discomfort in his shoulder. Tuesday’s 45-pitch effort by Peavy included 3 strikeouts.

Peavy is expected to get another start Sunday in extended spring training as the rest of the club heads to Cleveland.

“I’ll try to get where I can throw 100 pitches,” Peavy told mlb.com. “When I can do that and bounce back and do it again five days later, I’m going to say I’m ready to pitch in the big leagues and give it all I can to get back to Chicago. When I get to Chicago, I want to stay there.”
