Ruling puts wealthy in charge of U.S.
Kennedy, in stating “Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.” may have been appropriate then but not today.
Our government can no longer be described as “... of the people, by the people, for the people...” It is a country now run by the wealthy, lobbyists, and large corporations. This is a result of the Supreme Court decision that has allowed unlimited contributions to politicians. This was done under the guise of the First Amendment and free speech.
That decision treated an institution the same as an individual.
That interpretation and decision was wrong and must be undone.
An institution is not a person; it can’t vote, can’t run for office, cannot speak, etc.
That decision undid 20 years of statute and the McCain-Feingold law which barred funds from institutions for broadcasting and advertising political views that mentioned a candidate prior to an election.
With unlimited cash contributions, our legislators today are bought and paid for by institutions that operate to their benefit. It is hard to ask what you can do for your country when your country is sending all jobs out of the country by moving statutorily from fair trade to free trade by removing tariffs, supporting NAFTA, etc.
More and more institutions today are only doing what is in their best interest, not what is in best interest of the country nor the individual.
We are building a middle class in countries around the world now, at the demise of our own and the gap between the wealthy and the poor widens exponentially.
