Arlington Hts. library was her lifeline

I now know why that Arlington Heights Memorial Library has a 5-Star rating. When I was laid off at the end of January 2009, the next week I went to the library and set up an e-mail account on one of their up-to-date computers.

The computer gurus were very helpful in getting me started. Whenever there are updates to the computer system there is always someone who is very knowledgeable to help you.

When you go into the reference section people are always willing to help you. When you have questions or look puzzled there is always someone there to help. I had problems with my taxes this year, so they set up an appointment for me with their tax experts who help people over 60 with their taxes. Within 45 minutes, both my federal and state taxes were e-filed.

When you walk into the library there is always someone at the desk who says hello and “Can I help you?” When you need to fax something, or need to make changes to your library card, they are so pleasant. They don't treat you like you are bothering them, but like a long-lost friend. Maybe people who work in the customer service industry could take lessons from them.

I also enjoy the free musical programs that the library sponsors. They can make a dreary winter Sunday afternoon more pleasant.

When I was first laid off, there were some days when I came to the library, the people who work there would be the only human contact that I would have that day. They lifted my spirits and made me feel good about myself, again.

If I could, I would give the Arlington Heights Memorial Library a 10-Star rating and its personnel an humanity of the year award.

Thank you, and keep up the good work.
