Woodridge man pleads not guilty

Michael Gardner of Woodridge pleaded not guilty Monday to felony charges of false impersonation of an attorney and theft by deception.

Gardner, 53, is accused of swindling thousands of dollars from a Naperville family by acting as their attorney. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 2.

Gardner faces up to five years in prison if convicted of the most serious charge, which also is punishable by probation.
