Ash likely cause of Arlington Heights garage fire
Fireplace ash that wasn’t completely extinguished was most likely the cause of a fire inside an Arlington Heights garage Monday afternoon, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the fire on the 400 block of South Evergreen Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Monday and found heavy smoke billowing from the attached two-car garage due to burning plastic, fire officials said.
A burning garbage can and recycling bin caused some of the smoke to enter the home, but the house remains livable.
Fire officials estimated the damages to the garage doors and contents at $10,000.
