Area students can review for Basic Skills test at AU

Aurora University will host review sessions in April to help students prepare for the Illinois State Board of Education Basic Skills Test.

The public is invited to the series sponsored by the AU College of Education. Admission is free to AU students and alumni, $25 for others.

From 4 to 6 p.m. April 6, Math I, geometry, statistics, graphing, combined skills, and Math II, word problems, proportions, pre-algebra skills, algebra and logic, will be reviewed in Computer Lab 101 in Alumni Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place, Aurora.

At 11 a.m. April 9, language arts will be reviewed in Room 011 in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 9, reading comprehension will be reviewed in Room 011 in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place.

At 6 p.m. April 13, writing will be reviewed in Room 201 in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place.

Reviews include instruction, practice problems and handout materials. The goal of the sessions is to build confidence and reduce anxiety.

Education and social work majors who plan to work in public school systems are required to pass the five-hour Basic Skills Test to be certified.

Workshop attendees are requested to bring the online Basic Skills Test study guide available on the Illinois Certification Testing System website, www.icts.nesinc.com.

Also available on the ICTS website are study guides for other tests administered through ICTS and a practice test to prepare for the Basic Skills test.
