Seven cars were involved in a chain-reaction crash near Rand and Ela roads in Lake Zurich Friday night.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Rand just past a railroad underpass. Police are still sorting out exactly how it happened, said Sgt. Marty Yundt of the Lake Zurich Police Department.
A total of 18 passengers were involved – four or five of whom were transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Lake Barrington with minor injuries, Yundt said.
All seven vehicles involved were damaged and had to be towed away.
The northbound lanes of Rand were closed for about an hour during accident cleanup.
