Sign up for Mariners Swim Team April 9, 13

Villa Park Parks and Recreation announces that the Mariners Swim Team will hold priority registration for the 2011 season from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 at the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa. Open registration begins April 14.

The Mariners swim competitively in the DuPage Swim and Dive Conference, a group of 14 west suburban swim teams including Bensenville, Addison and Lombard.

The season includes 11 meets, five on Wednesday evenings and five on Saturday mornings, with a season ending conference meet. Practices are each

weekday morning at Jefferson Pool and swimmers are expected to attend each practice.

It is recommended that new swimmers have previous swim lesson experience prior to the start of the season.

Swimmers must successfully swim one length of the pool using a legal stroke in order to participate. Younger swimmers, ages 5-8, can join the Mini Mariners which is for those who do not have previous team experience. Mini Mariners practice three times per week and compete in the five home meets and

are eligible to compete in one of the two conference meets. Mini Mariners must also be able to successfully swim one length of the pool using a legal stroke.

The Mini Mariners team is not a prerequisite for the Mariners Swim Team. Fees during priority registration are as follows: $89 per child; $79 additional child; $55 Mini Mariners.

Fees during open registration are an additional $10. Please note: High School swimmers that practice with their school team during the summer and want to compete with the Mariners can do so at a reduced fee.
