Traffic stop nets coke bust
A Waukegan man has been arrested and charged with selling cocaine in the Lake Villa area, police said.
Noren A. King, 36, of the 1700 block of N. Berwick Boulevard, has been charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and a single count of delivery of a controlled substance, both class 1 felonies, Lake Villa police said.
King was also cited for driving on a revoked driver’s license and driving without headlamps when he was pulled over by police at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Police Chief Ron Roth said an alert patrol officer saw King driving a car north on Cedar Lake Road without its head lights turned on.
Roth said the vehicle was stopped, and the officer discovered the driver did not have a valid driver’s license or a record of any driver’s license with the name given to police.
When King exited the vehicle, a large plastic bag fell out of his pant leg, Roth said. When the officer inspected the bag, he found it contained 26 individually packaged plastic bags of crack cocaine with a total weight of about 7 grams, Roth said. Officers also discovered a small bag of heroin in King’s pants pocket.
Roth said Gurnee Police were contacted and identified King, who had refused to release his name after being arrested. King was taken Lake County jail where he is awaiting bond court.
